December 2020 Updates

For us at GALS, December is a time of celebration and reflection.

We kick off this time with community and celebration with the first ever GALS virtual 5K fundraiser, PUSH IT!!

Share the fundraisers with your friends and family and help us finish 2020 in a strong financial position for next year’s growth.

In the weeks ahead, we will be sharing what we have accomplished over the past 12 months. Let's celebrate the births (73 so far!), and the doulas who supported those births.

First, I want to honor some of our outstanding volunteers/birthworkers:

  • Dominique Adeniyi, took on our Prenatal Coordinator role mid-year and also attended 9 births!

  • Courtney Harris attended 9 births, and has routinely gone above and beyond— organizing meal trains, ensuring clients have all the pregnancy, baby and postpartum supplies they need.

  • Kristyn de Lancey, Merav Greenberg, Melanie Wergin, and Alicia Power all attended 5+ births.

  • Trish Carslile, Latoya Martin, Ri Wade, and several others implemented the GALS donation drives, securing a storage unit to keep donations inventoried and safe before they transition into their new homes.

Many of our birthworkers have been volunteering with GALS for years! I want to thank all of you who have stuck around, and those of you who keep coming back :)

The commitment to supporting all births for anyone in need is what makes GALS special. GALS ensures no one births alone- but we couldn’t do this without our volunteers and birthworkers. We appreciate all of you- whether you’ve attended one birth, 14 births, or haven’t been to a birth but add yourselves to the calendar every month to support a family if and when someone is in need.

In the weeks to come, we will also be asking questions like, what services are families needing most? What are areas we can improve on? Let's notice where the GALS' strengths and use those to inform how we can support the needs in the community for 2021.

I’ll be sharing more of our most recent data, wins, and areas we are growing for 2021!

Stay tuned!

Morgan
